Seacoast Online: York [Maine] boasts many beautiful areas like its sandy beaches, Mount Agamenticus and its historic buildings. But arguably its most iconic image—one that draws people to town from around the country and the world—is the Cape Neddick Light Station, known colloquially as The Nubble.

And the York Parks and Recreation Department, which oversees both the light station and the parking and recreation area “across the gut” known as Sohier Park, is finding ever more creative ways to market that allure. Up to 5 million people can now view live webcams of the island from the Nubble website, which the department maintains. More than 12,000 people have liked its Nubble Facebook page. The expanded gift shop that opened two years ago now brings in $500,000.
