Cape Cod Times: Scientists at the New England Aquarium, in collaboration with other researchers along the East Coast, have observed 17 North Atlantic right whale calves in the waters off New England this year [2015].

According to a news release from the aquarium, the whales were spotted locally after giving birth in their primary winter habitat near the Florida/Georgia border. Six of these mother/calf duos have already been spotted in Cape Cod Bay, where the mothers feast on animal plankton after fasting for 3 to 4 months because little desirable food is available to them south of the mid-Atlantic.
