August 1, 2016
Suffolk Times: One person suffered second-degree burns and 2 other people were injured Friday morning in a fire at Greenport Yacht & Ship Building Company, authorities confirmed Saturday [July 30].
The victims, whose names haven’t been released, were working in a ship’s engine room pumping out water when one of the pumps caused a spark and ignited, Greenport Fire Chief Wayne Miller said.
“A pump came on and must have caused a flash and ignited the fumes,” he said. “When I arrived there was smoke pouring out and there was a flame.”
