The Hour reports that 35 kayaks successfully made the 12-mile crossing from Norwalk, Connecticut, to Crab Meadow Park in Northport, Long Island, on Saturday, July 21, for the 2012 Kayak for a Cause event.

Kayak for a Cause was created as a way to blend kayakers’ love of their sport with a commitment to helping good causes.

As part of the annual event, kayakers join together to cross Long Island Sound and raise money for local charities that promote health, the environment and leadership.

The event was expected to raise $50,000, with close to 100% of the funds donated to charities.
