4 Honored for Scituate Boat Fire Heroics

The Scituate, MA, Board of Selectmen and state Sen. Patrick O’Connor recently honored Paul Sullivan, John Ward, Michael Ward, and Andrew Geagea for their heroic actions during a boat fire in Scituate Harbor on June 4.

Sullivan, a fuel attendant at the Scituate Harbor Marina, was on the fuel dock when a boat suddenly burst into flames. He shut off the fuel supply, closed the door to the fuel pump building (which likely saved it from the flames), and called 911. Sullivan also grabbed a fire extinguisher from a nearby boat and tried to extinguish the flames.

Meanwhile, assistant harbormasters John Ward, Michael Ward and Andrew Geagea arrived in one of the town’s harbormaster boats. They cleared the docks and towed the burning boat away from the marina in order to minimize damage to the surrounding vessels.
