Agreement Reached on MA Shipyard Pollution
August 11, 2014
SouthCoastToday.com: An agreement between [Massachusetts] and Fairhaven Shipyard [in Fairhaven, Massachusetts] on how to fix noise and dust pollution issues at the North Yard requires the shipyard to either build an acoustic barrier wall around its North Yard or to build acoustic barrier “containers.”
The [Massachusetts] Department of Environmental Protection sent the agreement, called a consent order, to shipyyard neighbors this week. It does not describe what the wall or containers would look like, but it does require the shipyard to act “in an expeditious timeframe” to build the barrier within 30 days of receiving the appropriate town permits.
