America Replica Visits Plymouth, MA
August 16, 2016
The world-famous racing yacht replica America will visit Plymouth Harbor, MA, from August 17 to 20 as part of the official America’s Cup Tour.
Visitors will be given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see and sail aboard this 139’ replica of the yacht that shocked the world and won the first ever Royal Yacht Squadron’s “100 Pound Cup” regatta around the Isle of Wight in 1851. That schooner, also named America, beat the best and most seasoned vessels that the British could offer, thus resulting in the race being renamed “America’s Cup.”
America will berth at Plymouth’s State Pier next to Mayflower II, another symbol of our nation’s earliest beginnings and alliance with the United Kingdom. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales to board America will support the multimillion-dollar restoration and preservation of the full-scale reproduction of the ship that carried the Pilgrims to New England’s shores in 1620.
America is currently on her last leg of an extensive tour of the East and Gulf coasts and the Caribbean to raise awareness of the 2017 America’s Cup defense in Bermuda. She was built in 1995 and now operates out of San Diego under Next Level Sailing, and sails around the world as an official licensed partner for the America’s Cup Tour.
America will offer one sailing trip per day from the State Pier on Water Street in Plymouth, as well as dockside tours (on a limited basis, as times are dependent on tides). Public programming on board America in Plymouth Harbor is as follows:
- Wednesday, August 17:
Midday sail from 10:30AM—1:00PM
Dockside tours from 1:30PM—5:00PM
“America’s Cup: Past, Present, and Future” multimedia presentation at Plymouth Yacht Club (PYC Members only) at 7:00PM

Dockside tours from 2:00PM—5:00PM
