Amistad Tries Navigating Out of Trouble

NHRegister.com: The Freedom Schooner Amistad’s universal message of freedom resonates wherever the tall ship goes — in New Haven [Connecticut], Bridgeport and New London as well as Cuba, Sierra Leone, Puerto Rico and Nova Scotia, to name a few.
But in order to continue to convey that message, Connecticut’s 79-foot official flagship — home port New Haven — must remain afloat.
Amistad America, Inc., the fiscally-troubled organization that owns the Amistad, is about to start doing that all on its own again. Its contract with the Maine-based Ocean Classroom Foundation, which has operated and insured the ship for the past 20 months, ends August 31.
