Ancient Anchor Discovered in Portsmouth, NH

WMUR-Channel 9 in New Hampshire is reporting that a one-ton ship’s anchor the size of small car was found in some brush along the Piscataqua River by a group of volunteers helping to clean up the riverbank next to the USS Albacore submarine museum in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

According the report, the anchor was dredged from the Piscataqua more than 25 years ago and donated to the museum when the Albacore was moved from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard to its current home. Since the anchor didn’t really fit the museum’s theme, it was left on the bank. No information on the anchor’s origins have been reported.
