Bayliner 285 Cruiser Ideal for Weekend Trips
December 8, 2010
Bayliner’s new 285 Cruiser is a compact, affordable, single-engine family boat that sleeps 6 and features numerous cabin amenities for weekending or simple daytrips. The 285 will appeal to boaters who want a durable, easy-to-maintain boat that also holds its value.
At the helm, the gauges and switches are easy to read and access, and there’s room for an optional bow thruster…
The boat’s wide 9’ 11” beam provides an impressive amount of functional space, both in the cabin and the cockpit. Unique features include the double-wide helm seat, which allows the captain to easily converse with the passengers, and the private aft cabin, which allows 2 couples, or a family of 4, to enjoy an overnight trip.
The cabin features a maple wood interior and black countertops for a sharp, modern look. The long side windows and large overhead hatch let in lots of natural sunlight and add to the interior’s roomy feel. There’s a small galley to port, a dinette that converts to a berth, a double-V-berth forward and an enclosed head.
On deck, facing bench seats and a removable table in the cockpit provide a convenient area for dining or entertaining. Remove the table and the large hatch in the cockpit sole raises to provide excellent access to the engine compartment, where everything from the batteries to the water tank are within easy reach. The big space makes for easy engine checks and routine maintenance.
The 285’s wide swim platform offers plenty of space for lounging or swimming, as well as dinghy storage.
At the helm, the gauges and switches are easy to read and access, and there’s room for an optional bow thruster and space for a pair of flush-mount 8” displays. The double-wide helm seat converts to a bolster, and there’s a convenient footrest with storage below.
Top speed with the standard 300-hp MerCruiser 350 MAG engine is 38.6 mph, which results in a fuel burn of nearly 30 gph and 1.70 mpg. At a 4000 rpm cruise, speed is 27 mph and fuel burn is 12.1 gph, for a 179-mile range.
