Block Island Times: A clogged pump on July 7 caused the sewer system to overflow on a section of Ocean Avenue. Sewage flowed across the road and ran into the inner ponds.

The town has closed to entire pond to shellfishing until it has been determined whether the water quality is safe. Water testing was performed Tuesday, July 12, and the results won’t be in — or the pond opened — until this weekend at the earliest. Anyone interested in going shellfishing should watch for signs at Andy’s Way.
