Block Island Times: The North Light at Sandy Point is the beneficiary of some new technology, courtesy of a few generous donors. The lighthouse is now equipped with 2 new webcams, an updated wind turbine and a weather station. The keepers of the light, the North Light Commission, have been busy installing and calibrating the equipment, as well as maintaining, repairing and refurbishing the property.

At its monthly meeting held on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Town Hall, North Light Commission Chair Rob Gilpin said, “Right now the focus needs to be on getting this up and running.” Gilpin was alluding to making reparations to the lighthouse in anticipation of the island’s summer season when visitors will tour the property.
