Block island Times: The [New Shoreham] Harbors Committee is considering changes to its policy regarding free pump-outs for boats staying at marinas on Block Island.
Members of the Commission estimated that 50% of the pump-outs the Harbors Department performs over the summer are at the marinas, and that the free service has put a strain on both the budget and personnel of the Harbors Department. While marinas are required by law to provide their own pump-out services, none on Block Island actually do, and it was noted that the law is not being enforced by state officials.
