Boat Catches Fire in Boston Harbor
October 19, 2010
A 74-year-old man who was fishing alone in Boston Harbor off the northern end of Long Island on Sunday morning was rescued after his 28-foot boat caught fire near the C “5” buoy, forcing him to jump overboard.
Fortunately, a Good Samaritan boater was nearby and pulled the Lexington native from the water, which was 57 degrees. The victim was later transferred to a harbor patrol boat, and from there to a hospital, where he was later released.
The man, whose name is being withheld, was wearing a lifevest at the time of the accident. He told police that he suspected the fire was caused by an electrical problem.
