Boat Catches Fire off Charles Island, CT
Illustration/New England Boating One man suffered third-degree burns after a boat caught fire Saturday afternoon, June 7, on the Housatonic River.

At 12:35 p.m., the Coast Guard received a call from fishing vessel that there was boat on fire by the jetties near Charles Island, the Coast Guard said.

Four people were on the boat that caught fire, but they abandoned it and boarded a nearby fishing vessel after the fire started. Three or four nearby vessels attempted to put out the fire, the Coast Guard said.

Fairfield Police and the The Milford Fire Department responded, as well as the Coast Guard auxiliary and a small Coast Guard vessel about 19 minutes after the initial call. Fairfield Police are assisting the people on the boat with getting medical attention, the Coast Guard said.
