Boat Catches Fire, Sinks Off Norwalk, CT The sun was about to set over Cedar Point on Saturday, August 13, when Westport Police Capt. Sam Arciola pitched his fishing rod, casting a few lines with his friend, Don Saunders, before dusk.

A Westport native and avid boater, Arciola waved to the captain of a 47-foot Meridian, named Twosome, as it passed his vessel near the channel to Long Island Sound.

But as Arciola reeled his lure in from the water, he noticed something was wrong—black smoke was bellowing out of Twosome’s twin diesel engines.
