Boat Drifts Aground off Newport

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management responded Saturday, Oct. 5, to a report of a boat that had washed ashore at Brenton Point State Park. According to the RI DEM, the boat had run out fuel. No injuries were reported, and the boat was secured by DEM personnel with the help of a crane until it could be towed to the ramp where the owner’s trailer was parked.

According to the Newport Daily News, the owner of the boat, Ha Nguyen, 44, of Holden, Massachusetts, did not a have a contract with a boat towing company. It is unclear whether the boat had an anchor and, if so, why it was not used.
