On May 30, 2015, Nikki Berthiaume, 19, was involved in a tragic boating accident on Boston Harbor. Berthiaume was swimming near the boat when a line she was holding became stuck in the spinning propeller. She was pulled into the prop, which caused massive injuries, including the amputation of her arm.

To defray medical costs, friends and family of Berthiaume have created a fundraising site:

The vessel’s owner, Ben Urbelis, was charged with operating a boat under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a boat, and furnishing alcohol to minors. Another man, Alexander Williams, was charged with negligent operation of a boat, furnishing alcohol to minors, and tampering with evidence. Both men have pleaded not guilty.
