Boats Burn on Cape Cod Lake
August 2, 2019
On Thursday, Aug. 1, the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department on Cape Cod responded to a report of a boat fire at the Wequaquet Lake launch ramp.
Upon arrival, firefighters enountered a 19-foot Sea Ray that was fully involved and drifting into a mooring field. The boat came to rest against a moored pontoon boat, which also caught fire. The Sea Ray then drifted away from the mooring field. Eventually, both the burning Sea Ray and the pontoon boat were towed to the ramp, where the flames were extinguished. A containment boom was placed around the two involved vessels, although no fuel or oil was released from either vessel, according to a fire department statement. No injuries were reported, and it is unclear what started the fire.
