Bucksport, ME, Seeks to Improve Boating Access

Bucksport, Maine, has launched a plan to improve and expand its boating infrastructure to welcome more visiting boaters and cruise ships to the Penobscot River town.

The $1.5 million project, which also hopes to boost the local economy and attract more waterfront businesses, includes plans to lengthen the town’s 315-foot main dock, lengthen the floating docks, and replace the existing seasonal wooden floats with year-round concrete anchors. The number of recreational slips would also be increased.

Funding aid could come from a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Boating Infrastructure Grant. These grants are awarded to projects that may benefit recreational boats 26 feet and above.
