In this New England Fishing short film, host Tom Richardson tags along with two seasoned New Hampshire fishing guides as they spend their day off fly fishing for big northern pike on the upper Connecticut River—and get a surprise in the process!
Bill Bernhardt and Chuck Degray of Lopstick Outfitters spend most of their time guiding anglers to trout and salmon, but in recent years have become obsessed with pursuing northerns—which can grow to 40 inches or more—in the slower, warmer sections of the Connecticut. Targeting northerns on fly gear requires throwing huge streamers, sometimes for hours on end, in order to coax a strike from one of these formidable predators. It’s hard work, but the rewards are worth it.
