The 14th Annual BassAckwards Race will be held out of Kingman Yacht Center in Cataumet, Massachusetts, this Saturday, July 30. The 50 boats registered in this year’s event will race to see which crew will be first to round Cleveland Ledge Light and make it back to the starting line.

The starting sequence begins at noon. Both racing and cruising boats will compete on the same course, and the first boat to cross the finish line is declared the winner.

Since its inception 14 years ago, the BassAckwards Race has grown into a Buzzards Bay tradition.

Held every year on the last Saturday in July, some 300 participants man a fleet of 50 or so boats to compete for the trophies, the chair, and bragging rights as the team that somehow managed to get to Cleveland Ledge Light and back faster than anyone else without loss of life, limb or dignity.

Production of the race has passed from the founders to Kingman Yacht Club, introducing a greater organizational capability and renewed energy. The beloved “fun race” is still central to the weekend, and the “pursuit” format provides a challenge for racers of all experience levels and abilities.
