WickedLocal Scituate: Scrutiny of safety issues and enforcement of existing boating laws have increased following the death of Marshfield resident Zac Woods, 23, who was involved in a boating accident off Brant Rock on July 16. He and Justin McDonald, also of Marshfield, were returning from the Spit in Scituate, an area known as a popular and secluded drinking spot.
According to Marshfield police captain Phil Tavares, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident. McDonald, 22, was arraigned in Plymouth District Court on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Marshfield Harbormaster Mike DiMeo said that drinking on a boat can be considered public drinking, but adds that discretion is necessary and used regularly in order to enforce laws on the water.
