Cape Cod Beach Cottagers Fight for Preservation

CapeCodOnline: Eleven North Beach Island cottages will soon find their formal place in Chatham’s cultural landscape.
The Keeper of the National Register of Historic Places is weighing 2 competing applications about the cottages on the island, a landscape viewed for decades from the Chatham Fish Pier.
The Cape Cod National Seashore—owner of 5 cottages now leased to long-term tenants who are fighting to stay in them—say the structures have no historical or cultural significance and 2 or 3 of them are likely to be demolished by storms in the near future.
