Chatham “C” Buoy Scheduled for Removal
January 8, 2020
U.S. Coast Guard has announced a decision to remove the “C” Buoy marking the entrance to Chatham Harbor off Cape Cod.
According to the Chatham Harbormaster, the decision may have something to do with cost-cutting based on last year’s re-designation of the Chatham Coast Guard Station from a “surf” station to a “heavy-weather” station. The “C” Buoy is continually being moved by storms, and requires additional manpower to reposition.
The decision to remove the buoy was published in the local Notice to Mariners last fall, but didn’t receive much attention at the time. Chatham officials may protest the buoy’s removal, which is scheduled for late January.
