Clingstone Mansion Owner Dies at 87

Henry Austin Wood III, the owner and restorer of the Clingstone Mansion off Jamestown, RI, (aka, “the house on the rocks”), died at his home in Boston on Jan. 27, 2017. He was 87.
In 1960, Wood purchased the 23-room house on Narragansett Bay’s East Passage for $3,600. For the next 50 years, Wood spent his life piecing together the ongoing repairs with the help of numerous volunteers.
An architect in Boston, Wood was responsible for many public projects, including Boston City Hall.
