Closure to Impact Hundreds of Maine Lobstermen
February 26, 2014
The closure of a section of Maine’s Penobscot River to lobstering because of high levels of mercury is likely to affect hundreds of lobstermen and crab harvesters, according to an article in the Portland Press Herald.
A total of about 270 licensed commercial and recreational harvesters work in the area and are potentially affected by the closure, according to the Department of Marine Resources.
