Fisherman Medivaced off Chatham
September 24, 2012
A Coast Guard rescue crew medically evacuated a 47-year-old man from a fishing trawler approximately 40 miles east of Chatham, Massachusetts, at 10:45 p.m., on Saturday, September 22.
Watchstanders from the Sector Southeastern New England Command Center received a distress call from the 75′ trawler Destiny at 6:33 p.m. requesting assistance for a male suffering from heart attack-like symptoms.
The Destiny was directed to meet a rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Chatham.
Due to weather conditions, Station Chatham was unable to conduct a shipboard medivac and a Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew was launched to complete the operation.
The MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew transferred the man to awaiting Emergency Medical Services for further transfer to Hyannis Hospital.
