Coast Guard to Paddlers: ID Your Kayaks, Canoes
September 9, 2011
CapeCodOnline: Summer is coming to a close, but there is plenty of good boating weather to come, and Coast Guard officials want kayakers and other paddlers to be smart about it.
Four years ago, the U.S. Coast Guard launched Operation Paddle Smart in the hopes of teaching paddle enthusiasts about safe practices but also to get them to put waterproof labels on their kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and rowboats, said Capt. David Throop, commander at Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod.
To get a waterproof ID label for your watercraft, contact Commodore Carolyn Belmore of the Coast Guard Auxiliary on Cape Cod at (508-968-6600).
