It has been 5 years since a fire destroyed the Victorian-era Edgewood Yacht Club building in Cranston, RI. Since then, the venerable club’s 230 members have gone without a headquarters, but that may soon change.

The Cranston Herald reports that beginning as soon as February, a crew will start driving steel piles to support a new 3-story building, which will retain the historical character of the original clubhouse, including a wraparound porch. Construction is expected to run throughout the summer.

Overall, the building will be 5,000 square feet, about half the size of the original clubhouse. Cost of the project is estimated at $4 million, and is being financed in part by Brown University, whose yacht club and sailing team will occupy the building’s third floor.
