CT River Museum Offers Boatbuilding Workshop
June 7, 2017
The Connecticut River Museum will hold its annual three-day boatbuilding workshop for individuals, groups, and families. Dates are July 7-9 (registration due mid-June).
The workshops are led by the museum’s team of volunteer boatbuilders and are designed to provide participants with an enjoyable weekend working together to complete a 10’ Compass Skiff designed for stability, versatility and comfort. The Compass Skiff is a small, rugged outboard-powered boat that is the perfect introduction to building, owning, and maintaining a wooden boat. Use it as a small fishing boat or as a motorized tender.
Kits include everything you need to build the skiff boat: 9mm Okoume plywood for sides and bottom, white oak keel members, spruce chine logs, white pine seats, and ash rubrails.
The workshop is open to anyone age 10 and up.
Children 10 – 18 must participate with an adult.
