CT Sailor to Continue Voyage After Boat Sinks

New Haven Register: Eric Spitzner, 68, and newly retired, was bound for Bermuda on June 8, cruising Long Island Sound aboard his sailboat, Georgia, a 26-foot Morris Frances cutter. From Bermuda, he was to sail to the Azores, then to Gibraltar. After that, he said, back across the Atlantic Ocean to Brazil.

But Spitzner, who does not look entirely unlike Ernest Hemingway, only made it as far as Block Island, where he ran aground on a strip of sand and rock called Grace Point, only a half mile from New Harbor, where he’d meant to spend the night. Georgia, its hull ripped open, sank in 12 feet of water.
