CT Tackle Shops Worry Over Bass Pro Competition
July 17, 2012
CTPost.com: John Szyszka left the construction business 8 years ago for what he considered a more stable career selling fishing equipment, fresh lobsters and crabs in Bridgeport [Connecticut]. The Poland native, who is 46, bought the former Lou’s Boat Basin bait and tackle shop on Seaview Avenue, which has operated out of a garage at 365 Seaview Avenue for decades, and renamed it Seaview Ave Fish.
But with the announcement on Sunday (July 8) of national outdoor retailer Bass Pro Shops as the anchor tenant for Steel Point, Szyszka saw his financial stability come crashing down.
The big box store would open less than a mile down the road.
