CT to Renovate Branford Boat Launch Facility
May 27, 2014
Connecticut’s Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) has announced plans to renovate the state boat launch on the Branford River in Branford.
Plans are to reconstruct the launch and make it a state-of-the-art, handicapped-accessible facility. The ramp will be replaced with a 2-lane, grooved, concrete slab surface; the turning and parking areas will be redesigned and paved; and concrete pavers will be installed around the ramp area to prevent erosion.
An ADA-accessible, floating dock system will be added to make launching and retrieval of boats safer and more efficient, and a separate cartop launching area will be provided to minimize user conflicts. In addition, a solar-powered street light will be installed at the ramp to assist boaters launching or retrieving boats at night, and a trench drain will be placed at the top of the ramp to catch and filter much of the runoff into river. The Department plans to begin work late in the summer.
A public information meeting is scheduled from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, to inform interested parties about the proposed renovations. The meeting will take place at the Branford Fire Department Headquarters located at 45 North Main Street in Branford.
