WickedLocal Boxford: The Ipswich [MA] River Watershed Association (IRWA) has received a financial boost with a $30,000 grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust (the Trust). This funding is being used to support the development of engineering designs for the removal of the aging South Middleton Dam on the Ipswich River, part of a comprehensive effort to improve ecological conditions in the Ipswich River.

These funds, combined with generous financial support from other sources including MA Division of Ecological Restoration (MA DER), American Rivers, the Cabot Family Charitable Trust and the Sheehan Family Foundation have allowed the project to move forward in 2014-2015. The engineering work funded at this phase was also critical in helping to secure funds to finish the removal process.
