Damaged Coast Guard Boats Returning to Duty
September 4, 2011
CapeCodOnline: The final report has yet to be released on how two $800,000 rescue vessels were damaged and disabled by waves last November. Even so, Coast Guard officials are so confident about the modifications done in the wake of that incident that a third one has been ordered and will arrive November 15.
“We have absolute confidence in their abilities,” Coast Guard Rear Adm. Daniel Neptun said of the vessels.
Neptun and U.S. Representative William Keating toured Coast Guard Station Chatham on Wednesday and took a trip out of the harbor in one of the two 42’ rescue vessels that were designed and built by SAFE Boats International of Port Orchard, Washington.
