Dams Remain a Threat in CT, RI

The Day reports on the problem of poorly maintained, outdated dams in Rhode Island and Connecticut. Six dams in this area (5 in Rhode Island, 1 in Connecticut) collapsed last year after the 2010 spring deluge.

Repairs are being done, but the lack of dam inspectors and follow-up on state-issued mandates to repair the dams remain an issue. Rhode Island has 631 dams; Connecticut has 4,300.
