IF YOU HAVEN’T VISITED THE HINGHAM SHIPYARD VILLAGE ON HEWITTS COVE, INSIDE THE WEYMOUTH BACK RIVER, YOU MIGHT WANT TO PUT IT ON YOUR LIST OF DAYTRIP OR OVERNIGHT STOPS THIS SUMMER.

Located on the site of a former World War II naval shipyard, the sprawling Village features a variety of restaurants, shops, a grocery store, a movie theater and, of course, the Hingham Shipyard Marinas (formerly the Landfall and Hewitts Cove marinas).
A full-service facility, HSM sells gas and diesel and offers transient slips and moorings for boaters who want to stay overnight. However, they also offer short-term dockage at the western end of the marina, next to the Travelift bay, for those who want to spend a few hours ashore.

The rate is $20 for boats up to 29’; $30 for boats 30’ – 49’; and $40 for boats 50’ – 60’. A 4-hour maximum stay is allowed. Call the marina at (781) 749-6647 or hail them on Channel 9 to check on space availability—a good idea on summer weekends.
From the dock it’s an easy walk to the many shops and restaurants in the Village, including Wahlburgers, Alma Nove, Hingham Beer Works and Panera. You can also reprovision your galley at the Fresh Market, or catch a movie at Patriot Cinemas. There’s also a playground for small children to expend a bit of energy.
