If you haven’t been to Bath, Maine, you’re missing out on a very welcoming, historic—and overlooked—boating destination, with much to see and do. And if you’re seeking sustenance with a river view, set a course for the Kennebec Tavern, just north of the Rte. 1 bridge and steps from the downtown area.

The Tavern serves plenty of steamed lobster, along with sandwiches, soups, salads, and other yummy fare.
The Tavern offers casual indoor and outdoor dining overlooking the river, and boaters can usually find space to tie up along the adjoining marina docks, or arrange for a mooring. (Helpful Tip: tie up bow-north, so that the river current/ebb tide does not pile up branches and other flotsam on your transom and engine.)
The restaurant serves lobster, sandwiches, wraps, seafood, steaks, burgers, and more, and has a wide assortment of cold beverages on tap, plus a full bar. However, it’s the view and convenient dockage that really set it apart. If you’re lucky, you may even spy a bald eagle flying along the river while you enjoy your lobster roll!
