Cape Cod Times: Marine mammal rescuers have responded daily since Thursday to reports of dolphins swimming near the shores of Wellfleet and Brewster in Cape Cod Bay, and are asking anyone who sees a stranded dolphin to stay back and call a rescue hotline.

“We’re having some difficulties with people attempting to move the dolphins back into the water themselves,” International Fund for Animal Welfare spokeswoman Shawna Moos said. “Without proper equipment and training this can injure and stress the animals, and if the conditions are not right in that location, the animals may be likely to re-strand.”

The stranding hotline is 508-743-9548.
