Donations Spur Restoration of Historic Schooner

CapeCodOnline.com: In the five-plus years that it took to restore the last wooden whaleship, the schooner Ernestina languished in [Massachusetts’] New Bedford harbor, lacking the money it would take to put her back in service as a museum piece and a sail training and historical educational vessel.
But that all changed [recently] when the state’s commissioner of conservation and recreation (DCR) confirmed that a pair of private donors more than matched the state’s commitment to the Ernestina, which as a result will soon embark on a full-on restoration as thorough as that done on the Charles W. Morgan.
