Dredge Barge Breaks Loose in Plymouth Harbor
November 7, 2019
A dredge barge with heavy equipment aboard broke loose of its anchoring system and grounded on the breakwater in Plymouth Harbor, MA, on the night of Oct. 30-31.
The unmanned barge drifted with the incoming tide overnight and was pushed by the strong southwest wind against the breakwater. Had the winds been otherwise, the barge could have drifted through he mooring field, causing major damage to the boats there.
The barge was removed from the rocks on the afternoon tide and moved to the Plymouth Town Pier for inspection.
