Dredging Begins in Gloucester’s Annisquam River & Lobster Cove

The dredging of portions of the Annisquam River and Lobster Cove in Gloucester, MA, will begin this fall, for the first time since 1976. Currently, shoaling of the river north of the Commuter Rail bridge and inside Lobster Cove has prohibited access by larger emergency vessels from the city and the Coast Guard.

The $7.85 million contract to remove 140,000 cubic yards was awarded to Coastline Consulting and Development of Branford, Connecticut.

According to the Army Corps of Engineers’ New England District, the project will take five to six months to complete, and will take place over two fall-winter seasons. The tentative completion date is February 15, 2021.
