Eastham, MA, to Mark Nauset Estuary Boat Channel
May 25, 2015
The Cape Cod Times reports that the town of Eastham will now mark the boat channel in Nauset Estuary within its boundaries, after having relied on the neighboring town of Orleans to do the job for years.
According to the Times, the 2 towns are involved in a land-use dispute over Nauset Spit. As a result of the dispute, Orleans is refusing to provide harbormaster services such as channel marking, patrols and response on Eastham’s side of the estuary.
Of the 18 channel markers typically set in the 1,500-acre estuary, only one is within the boundaries of Orleans.
