Eel Rescue Project Underway in Greenwich, CT
April 3, 2012
The CTPost interviews Joe Cassone, a Greenwich, Connecticut, conservationist, about the plight of juvenile eels, also called elvers or glass eels, as they try to make their way upstream in the Byram River.
Cassone wants to install an “eel pass” in the lower portion of the Byram River, below the Pemberwick Dam. The device will collect baby eels that swim through it, after which volunteers would move the eels to various locations upstream, where they could grow to maturity.
