Event of the Week: 2019 CT Spring Boat Show

The 3rd Annual Connecticut Spring Boat Show will take place May 3-5 at Essex Island, a Safe Harbor Marina located in Essex, CT. This in-water show will again work with Sails Up 4 Cancer (SU4C), a non-profit organization supporting cancer care, education, prevention, and research. Sails Up 4 Cancer will benefit from the $5 recommended entrance donation to attend the show. Last year the show raised over $10,000 for SU4C.
Show attendees will have the opportunity to compare different boats, dealers and options in one location. Further, the in-water format offers interested buyers select opportunities for sea trials throughout the weekend.
Visitors will enjoy seeing a wide range of new and brokerage, power and sail models, from 10 feet to larger than 65 feet, from Axopar, Barracuda, Bayliner, Beneteau, Boston Whaler, BRIG Inflatables, Catalina, Crownline, Cutwater, Candian Electric Boat Company, Eastern Boats, Edgewater, Everglades, Formula, Grady White, Grand Banks, Great Scott, a Stephens 68’, Hunt, Hydra-Sports, Jeanneau, Joseph Conboy, Kencraft, Kha Shing, Lagoon, Legacy Express, MJM, Monterey, Nordic Tug, Nord Star, Nor-Tech, Ranger Tug, Regal, Regulator, Rossiter, Sabre, San Juan, Scout, Sea Legs, Sea Pro, Sea Ray, Southport, Surfhunter, Tiara, Tidewater, Uniesse, Viking, and other leading boat brands.
In addition, gear, accessories and marine service providers will have displays on the lawn. On Friday, May 3, the riverboat Becky Thatcher will host a scenic sunset cruise along the Connecticut River. This promises to be a delightful evening on the water, with light bites and cocktails. All proceeds from the ticket sales and cash bar will benefit Sails Up 4 Cancer. Tickets are $20/pp. Boarding begins as the Boat Show closes at 6 pm. The cruise sets sail at 6:30 pm and returns at 8:30 pm. Tickets are available for purchase in advance online or at the show prior to 6 pm.
On Saturday, May 4, at 2 pm, Bill Luce, Soundkeeper for Save the Sound, will present a Long Island Sound report card and will discuss improvements to the local water quality and how we can keep improving it. This free presentation will take place in the main shed on Essex Island.
In addition, on Saturday, May 4, Puzzle B, a 2018 14′ Brockway replica, along with a refurbished 1958 10-hp Johnson Seahorse motor and 2018 Venture trailer will be raffled off to raise money for preschool and elementary school children with special needs at Essex Elementary School. Joe & Liz Boccia have coordinated the raffle of Puzzle B and the proceeds of the raffle will be donated to the Essex Elementary School Foundation. The raffle drawing will take place at 4 pm at the show.
Also on Saturday, May 4, at 5 pm, the CT Spring Boat Show will host the 2019 CT River Leukemia Cup post-race party on the Becky Thatcher. The party is open to the public and will offer food, drinks, music and a silent auction to raise money for leukemia research. Tickets may be purchased online.
Brewer Essex Island Marina is located on a 13-acre private Island, accessed by a complementary ferry service, and offers 125 slips accommodating vessels up to 200’. The resort marina is family friendly and offers food and beverages, along with live music throughout the weekend.
