SouthCoast Today reports that the city of Fall River, MA, will host an Ocean Powerboat Race this summer. On August 15, the super-loud, super-fast racing boats, capable of speeds up to 100 mph, will compete on the waters of the Taunton River.

“It is NASCAR on the water,” Michael Lund, owner of Borden Light Marina and promoter of the Offshore Powerboat Association races, was quoted as saying.

The course will start off the Gold Medal Bakery and run 2 miles north up the Taunton River to a turnaround point near Point Gloria. After that, the boats will sweep toward Somerset before cutting back to a turn at the starting line. There will be several heats run through race day with a half-dozen classes.
