CapeCodOnline reports that the famous CG36500 lifeboat that rescued 32 men off the coast of Chatham in what is now known as the greatest small-boat rescue in Coast Guard history was involved in the rescue of a kayaker off Eastham, MA, on Thursday, August 28.

The lifeboat, which is maintained by the Orleans Historical Society, was underway off the coast of Eastham when coxswain Richard G. Ryder noticed a man in the water next to a flooded kayak. The crew quickly pulled the kayak and its owner on board then brought them both to Campground Beach. No injuries were reported.
