27East.com: A small building housing a packing-out operation for commercial fishing boats at the East Hampton Town Dock in Montauk was destroyed by fire early Friday morning [May 11].
Mary Stedman Farnham, whose husband, Paul Farnham, owns the business, said a fisherman happened to see smoke as he was heading out to go fishing early in the morning. The fisherman, Billy Carman, called the Montauk Fire Department at 3:00 a.m., Ms. Farnham said, and called her husband as well. “No one was hurt and that’s most important,” she said. “Who knows how extensive it could have been. It could have gone everywhere down the dock.”
