Firefighters rescue teen in icy pond at Connecticut College’s arboretum

The Day: Firefighters made a rescue at icy pond at Connecticut College’s arboretum this afternoon (Dec. 2), pulling to safety a teenager who fell into the ice.

Three teenagers had ventured out this afternoon onto the water’s icy surface to reach a rock near the center of the pond. One teenager, a boy, fell into the water through broken ice before reaching the rock, said Rocco Basilica of the New London Fire Department.

Four members of the fire department in cold water rescue suits pulled the teenager, as well as the other two teenagers who had reached the rock, to safety on shore through an inflatable rescue boat.
